All Capello products are coated to the strictest ISO standards in electrostatic powder coating systems.

This type of coating is more environmentally friendly as the coatings used are solvent free. In addition, it serves to provide the kind of abrasion resistance, ease of cleaning, water repellence and glossy finish that the Capello headers are known for.

All Capello products are coated at our Cuneo headquarters, without exception. To ensure we can meet increasing production rates with the same high quality, we’ve further upgraded the coating system.

Electrostatic powder coating

This coating method involves a number of steps:

Inline washing

The various parts are washed thoroughly to remove every last trace of foreign matter, such as oil and grease, which could ruin the end result in terms of adhesion, durability and resistance. The system we use features a five-stage washing process, meaning every single detail is addressed with painstaking care. The first stage involves a hot phosphate wash, followed by two rinses with mains water, and a third with demineralized water produced by the osmosis system. Lastly comes the final passivation process, providing additional protection against corrosion and rust.

Drying and masking

Following the inline washer, the various header parts are dried with hot air. Operators then mask the parts that are not to be coated.

Powder coating

This type of coating (unlike coatings using liquid paints) is a dry process, carried out with an electrostatic spray gun. The powder actually attaches to the surface to be coated by virtue of an electrostatic effect: namely, the powder is negatively charged, while the material it is to be applied to is earthed.

Final stage

At this point, the parts are moved into an oven for a three-stage baking process, taking a total of roughly thirty minutes at temperatures in the 110° to 170° range, allowing the epoxy powder to adhere fully to the metal.

Why have we chosen this coating process?

We’ve chosen this method because it delivers superior results compared to other techniques, while also being quicker and more economical. Headers for harvesting maize, wheat, barley, sunflowers, fresh forage… are usually required to work in conditions where hoods are prone to damage, with scrapes being commonplace. But the care and effort we put into providing a highly resistant finish is integral to the quality of all Capello products, ensuring that they stand the test of time.
